The rising success of Netflix’s limited series Adolescence, which just surpassed all other shows in India in terms of viewership, has left filmmaker Sudhir Mishra absolutely perplexed.
Sudhir, who has worked on films like as Dharavi (1992), Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003), Chameli (2004), and Serious Men (2020), admitted that he was encouraged to watch the program after reading great reviews from fellow filmmakers Hansal Mehta and Shekhar Kapur.
One social media user commented, “It became the most talked-about show in the world and received rave reviews from western critics.” So we were already certain it would be a good concert. It’s genuinely nice, but as you mentioned, we’d have struggled to go through it if we hadn’t had this preconceived concept.”
Sudhir said, “No, we didn’t.” I watched it because @mehtahansal and @shekharkapur were gushing about it. In fact, it’s one of the few shows that received universal acclaim across the Netflix globe. By far, I preferred Better Call Saul”.
Mishra questions accepted wisdom.
Mishra said on X (previously Twitter): “Why is Adolescence the most popular show on Netflix India? The general consensus is against it. Slow burners are not designed to appeal to Indians. It breaks all the rules that poor script writing schools teach. Rather than soaring forward, it spirals downward. This is the finest news in a long time.

Sudhir Mishra’s perspectives on adolescence : Netflix

Sudhir Mishra took to X and wrote, “How come Adolescence is the number one show on Netflix India. All conventional knowledge opposes it. Indians aren’t supposed to favor slow burners. It defies every guideline taught at poor scriptwriting programs. It spirals downwards rather than upwards. “It’s the best news in years.”
Mishra, renowned known for films such as Dharavi and Chameli, also stated that he viewed Adolescence after Hansal Mehta and Shekhar Kapur expressed their opinions on it. When a user stated, “It became the most talked-about show in the world and received rave reviews from Western critics.” So we were already certain it would be a good concert. It is quite fantastic, but as you mentioned, we would have found it impossible to sit through it if we hadn’t had this preconceived concept,” he replied, “No, we didn’t. I watched it because @mehtahansal and @shekharkapur were gushing about it. In fact, it’s one of the few shows that received universal acclaim across the Netflix globe.
